About Britz Campervans Australia
About Britz Campervans Australia
Britz campervans are probably the most well-known brand in Australia — and almost certainly the largest.
They operate under the THL umbrella alongside Maui and Mighty Campers, giving them a network that few operators can match. Same vehicles, different price points, different ages — it's a smart system once you understand how it works.
They run their fleet from brand new to a maximum of 3 years old (or 150,000km). After that, vehicles are passed on to Mighty Campers, keeping the Britz fleet relatively modern at all times.
The Britz Fleet At A Glance
2 berth simple models, 2 berth full-featured models, 4 berth campervans and true 4WDs — Britz does it all. From the entry-level Hitop through to the Trailblazer and up to the Maverick and Warrior 4WDs, there's a vehicle for most travel styles.
From the Trailblazer upward, you get an on-board shower and toilet — a genuine consideration if you're camping off-grid for extended periods.
Which Campervan Brand Is Best For You?
MAUI is the brand used for campervans that are brand new to approximately 60,000km (roughly 1 year old).
BRITZ campervans run from 60,000km to 150,000km (approximately 1 to 3 years old), though some models begin their life in the Britz fleet from new.
MIGHTY campervans then run from 150,000km through to end of life.
Britz sits squarely in the middle — newer than Mighty, more affordable than Maui. For most travellers, it's the sweet spot.
4WD Campervan Hire
If you're planning serious outback travel — the Top End, the Red Centre, the Kimberley, the Pilbara — a 4WD is non-negotiable, and Britz is one of the few major operators offering one.
The Maverick and Warrior models are purpose-built for remote travel, accessing tracks and campsites that standard 2WD campervans simply can't reach.
The Maverick and Warrior both run on Toyota Land Cruiser platforms — reliable, proven, and well-suited to serious outback terrain.
\n\n4WD campers are available from all Britz branches except Hobart and Sydney — plan your pickup accordingly if outback access is the goal.
Pet-Friendly Campervan Hire
Travelling with a pet? Britz allows up to 2 cats or dogs per rental.
The fee is AU$315 per rental (not per pet). It's one of the higher pet fees in the market, but it covers the deep clean the vehicle goes through post-rental. You're expected to bring all supplies and protect the upholstery during the trip.
You can get the latest rules and fees directly from Britz.
Insurance
Standard liability ranges from AU$5,000–$8,000 depending on the vehicle.
The Liability Reduction Option (from AU$46/day) brings liability to zero and covers windscreen, tyre, overhead, and underbody damage.
The Inclusive Pack (from AU$58/day) adds extras including single vehicle rollover cover, child booster seats, and more.
For 4WD models, standard liability is AU$8,000. The Liability Reduction Option is AU$49/day (AU$500 bond/liability remaining), and the Inclusive Pack is AU$64/day.
Insurance is always the trickiest part of campervan hire after deciding what style you want.

Vehicle Fleet
This is a pretty stock standard hi-top campervan. The same type of model can be found in many of the Britz competitors: the Camperman Juliette, Cheapa Campa Hi-Top, Viva Campers Deluxe 3 person Hi-Top, Mighty Highball to name a few. The thing to note about the Britz version will be the age. As mentioned earlier, Britz tends to run their campervans only for a few of years before they pass them down to Mighty or simply just sell them. The others I have just mentioned have waaay older models. The price of competitors and your desire for crisp and clean will be the only factors to consider with this model.
Built for couples who want to venture off the beaten track, the Maverick 4WD is Britz's compact four-wheel-drive option. Based on a Toyota Land Cruiser platform, it handles corrugated dirt roads and remote national parks that a standard campervan simply can't reach. Perfect for the Gibb River Road, Cape York, or any serious outback adventure.
The Trailblazer is Britz's compact 2-berth workhorse — a practical Toyota HiAce-based campervan well-suited to couples or solo travellers exploring Australia's coast and outback highways. Simple setup, solid Britz build quality, and automatic transmission make it an easy drive for first-timers.
There are so many ways you can fit 4 people into a small campervan, but you’ve gotta be pretty happy with this layout. Daytime sees 2 peeps in the front seats and 2 people right at the back. Now, over the road noise when travelling, it will be a little hard to hear the peeps in the back row from the front, so if you have bickering kids, this will be perfect for you. In addition, there’s a hi-top roof on this Toyota Hiace campervan that allows for 2 peeps to sleep “upstairs”, so night time sees 2 upstairs near the front and 2 downstairs at the back. Personally, I love this design as it provides full standing height, interior cooking, and enough room to sit around a table. I highly recommend this camper for any group of 4 that are travelling buddies or family.
The Warrior 4WD is Britz's flagship family 4WD campervan — big enough for 4 people yet tough enough for Australia's most remote roads. If you're planning a multi-week outback trip with a family or group of 4 and need proper off-road capability, this is it. Expect proper kitchen and sleeping amenities backed by Britz's fleet freshness.
