About Mighty Campers Australia
Mighty Campers is undeniably one of Australia's most popular campervan hire companies — and for good reason. They're the budget arm of Tourism Holdings Ltd (THL), the same group that owns Britz and Maui. If you've heard that Mighty gets the hand-me-down fleet from the premium brands, you heard right — and that's actually the story worth understanding before you book.
Here's how THL's fleet pipeline works: new vehicles go into Maui (premium) for around two years, then transfer to Britz (mid-range) for another few years, then eventually land in Mighty at dramatically lower daily rates. So you're typically renting a 4–6 year old vehicle that's already been through 150,000–200,000+ kilometres. That sounds worse than it is. These aren't basket cases — they're proven platforms maintained by Australia's largest RV operator. You get what you pay for, but what you pay for is genuinely reliable transport.
Mighty now operates ten branches across Australia — Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney — making one-way rentals genuinely practical. All vehicles include linen, bedding, full kitchen setup, and on-road insurance as standard. No surprise upgrades. Unlimited kilometres on 2WD models (4WD has mileage charges).
The critical caveat: make, model, and layout are not guaranteed. You're booking a vehicle class, not a specific van. That's how Mighty absorbs fleet age variation without destroying pricing. Go in with that understanding and it works. Show up expecting a specific year or interior and you'll be disappointed.
Insurance
Standard liability deposit: $3,500 for Highball and Double Down; $5,000 for all other vehicles — charged to a credit card at pickup. The Liability Reduction Option (LRO) brings liability to $0: $30/day (max $1,450) for Highball and Double Down; $40/day (max $1,950) for everything else. Add the Inclusive Pack ($10/day) and you get single-vehicle rollover coverage plus WiFi, picnic furniture, and linen exchange.
Insurance is the second-biggest cost when renting a campervan. Read every line — and see our guide to campervan hire insurance in Australia — before you sign.
Pet Friendly
Dogs and cats are welcome in Mighty vehicles with a flat $299 fee (not per pet). Any damage caused by pets is your liability regardless of insurance level. Check the current pet policy on the Mighty website before booking.
Who Should Book Mighty
Book Mighty if: you're budget-conscious and understand what vehicle age means in practice; you don't need luxury or a guarantee of latest models; you value unlimited kilometres (2WD); you're doing a short-to-medium trip (under 3 weeks); you want the backing of Australia's largest RV operator for roadside support.
Spend more on Britz if: interior freshness matters; you want newer vehicles (typically 3–4 years old vs. 4–6+ at Mighty); vehicle consistency is a priority for you.
Spend more on Maui if: you expect near-new vehicles, premium amenities, and are happy to pay significantly more per day.
The maths: Mighty saves you roughly $15–25 per day versus Britz. That's $200–350 in savings on a 2-week trip. For flexible travellers who can accept older interiors, Mighty is genuinely good value. For travellers who'll spend the trip frustrated by worn plastics, spend the extra on Britz.
Final Verdict
Mighty Campers delivers exactly what it promises: reliable, budget campervan hire backed by Australia's largest RV operator. The vehicles are older, the interiors are worn, and you won't always know exactly what you're getting — but you will get a mechanically sound vehicle, 24/7 roadside assist, unlimited kilometres (2WD), and THL's full infrastructure behind it. That's a genuinely solid foundation.
The Mighty Duo (new 2-berth with bathroom) and the Double Up (best-value 4-berth motorhome) are the standouts of the current fleet. The new Mighty 4WD is legitimately capable for outback work. The MightyLITE options (HiLITE, DeLITE) are the cheapest entry points but come with the most noticeable age.
Go in with realistic expectations about vehicle age, and Mighty will reward you with a reliable, affordable Australian road trip.

Mighty Deuce campervan review - 2 berth campervan tour - Australia If you want lots of room and some luxuries like toilet and shower then you have to move up to the Deuce. Based on a 2012- 2014 Mercedes model, this thing is screaming top end with a whopping 80 ltr fridge, 120ltr water tank, and automatic transmission. Some of the luxuries only work when connected to mains power – like A/C whilst parked and microwave oven. This is standard across all campervans that have the facilities. The model introduces the shower and toilet design and has a lot more room thatn the aforementioned 2 berth Highball model. The Deuce is the largest of the 2 person vehicles, so if you like to spread out on holidays, then this is for you. Recommended as a 2 person camper if you can afford it.
Running a 2011 to 2014 model has never been this simple yet worthwhile! This Mighty Highball oozes with space for two. Standing or doing your morning exercise is made easier with the extra headroom. A camper for you and your mate, you can rely on the large rear lounge that converts into a large double bed at night. Though no internal walk-through access from the front seats to the kitchen, you still get to enjoy cooking in the spacious area. Plus, the kitchen is extendable to outside so that you can prepare the dishes while enjoying the scenic surrounding.
New from April 2026 — the Mighty 4WD is an off-road capable 2-berth pop-top camper built for unsealed Australian tracks. Gibb River Road, Cape York, central desert routes. Heavy-duty suspension, external kitchen. No child seats can be fitted. Not suitable for sealed-road-only travel.
Brand new for April 2026, the Mighty Duo is a compact 2-berth campervan with onboard shower, toilet, and solar charging. Self-contained and fully equipped — Mighty's most modern budget 2-berth offering. No children under 7 or those requiring child restraints.
Part of the new MightyLITE sub-brand — vehicles that are 6+ years on fleet, sold at Mighty's lowest rates. The HiLITE is a simple hi-top 2-berth van with no onboard toilet or shower. Kitchen, fridge, full standing height. For campground-reliant budget travellers. No child seats can be fitted.
For those planning to bring a child, this 2+1 campervan suits you well. This is quite a campervan for its size as it offers a seating area at the back of the driver's seat, leaving a smaller rear lounge. Still, your kid is secured while onboard because the unit comes with one child restraint. Aside from the upgrade, this family campervan is newer, mostly built on 2014 - 2016 models. And since this is from the Deuce category, you'll be furnished with all features of the other model, including fridge, microwave, and a double gas burner. If you think this one is a little squashy for 3 peeps, you may get the upgrade and go for the Double Up or Double Down.
This is the smaller of the Mighty Campers 4-berth options. Built on a long wheelbase Toyota Hiace it has the essential hi-top roof although, lets face it, it looks WEIRD. The hi-top allows for fully upright standing but is also where passengers 3 and 4 sleep. If you are travelling with kids, then this campervan could be for you. This model can take 2 child seats for under 3yo and also 2 booster seats for 3-8yo. The kids or passengers 3 and 4 are strapped into the forward-facing seat along the rear of the camper. Whilst driving the travel noise will make it difficult to communicate from front to back but on the bright side, it if is just bickering kids back there, it could be a major benefit. The campervan internal design is pretty standard. The kitchen area is directly behind the driver's cabin and the campervan comes with fridge, microwave, internal double gas burner, linen, and bedding. Overall this a campervan that works well for a group of 4 travelling on a budget. Remember to take soft bags for luggage as there is little room for hard case suitcases.
This is the smaller of the motorhome models for Mighty Campers, but is the largest 4 berth option. Being a motorhome you are moving into a vehicle with more room to move around inside and walk through capability from the front. It is standard for any motorhome to come with a microwave, fridge, main cabin air-con, toilet, shower, and grey water tank and this model is no exception. After all a few years ago this model was serving the customers of the higher-priced Britz or Maui brand, now that is has a few more miles of the clock and some scratches in the back, it is in the Mighty Campervans family. There's one bed permanently set up above the driver cabin and the other is converted from the rear dining area―also a very standard setup. This model is great for a family or a bunch of mates. We love that it comes with the awning built in - no extra charge.
